Velazquez Press and Center for Academic Language Development (CALD) have partnered up to provide research-based strategies and supports for the learners of academic language in K-12 classrooms.
Center for Academic Language Development (CALD) ‘s mission is to promote, research, and develop educational resources for struggling learners via academic language development. With several top educational leaders on the advisory board, the nonprofit will help create initiatives and support to empower districts, administrators, and teachers to prepare their students with academic language demands. Through their research, they will combat issues such as Long Term English Learners, Standard English Learners, and other populations who are ill prepared for language demands of the 21st century.
Velazquez Press is the preeminent authority on academic language development and Biliteracy. From the first American Spanish and English dictionary in 1852 to the 21st century digital textbook, Velazquez Press has a history developing classroom materials to support students’ language acquisition. The company has provided consistent support for English Language Learners and the preservation of primary language in k-12 classrooms through support of the Seal of Biliteracy throughout the U.S.
The partnership is developing a network of peer supported forums called “Academic Language Roundtable” . The goal for the Academic Language Roundtables are to provide district leaders a venue to share best practices and learn the latest information on academic language developement.
