During this workshop, Dr. Soto will provide an overview of the importance of the Speaking and Listening Standards in the Common Core, as well as practical strategies that will scaffold academic oral language development for English Learners, including Think-Pair-Share, Reciprocal Teaching, and Socratic Seminar. The session will focus on student engagement and academic language essential to the Common Core Standards. Participants will view videos and reflect upon teachers implementing the academic oral language development strategies with ELLs in a high-poverty, high-performing school. Dr. Soto will also address the connection between the new English Language Development Standards and the CCSS.
