
New Partnership to Enhance Academic Language in the Classroom
Velazquez Press and Center for Academic Language Development (CALD) have partnered up to provide research-based strategies and supports for the learners of academic language in K-12 classrooms.
Center for Academic Language Development (CALD)’s mission is to promote, research, and develop educational resources for multilingual learners via academic language development. The nonprofit will help create initiatives and support to empower districts, administrators, and teachers to prepare their students with academic language demands. Through their research, they will support learners and address issues such as Long-Term English Learners, primary language support, and family engagement.
Velazquez Press is the preeminent authority on academic language development and biliteracy. From the first American Spanish and English dictionary in 1852 to the 21st century digital textbook, Velazquez Press has a history developing classroom materials to support students’ language acquisition. The company has provided consistent support for multilingual learners and the preservation of primary language in K-12 classrooms through support of the Seal of Biliteracy throughout the U.S.
